Truthful Tips for an Eco-friendly Summer
Summer is right around the corner, and we can hardly believe it! That doesn’t put a damper on our excitement though, because warmer months are the perfect time to break out your timeless essentials and have a truly fabulous season. Here are a few Truthful Tips to have a fantastic and eco-friendly summer.
Invest in Reusable Water Bottles
You may still find yourself reaching for a jacket in the evenings, but the scorching heat of summer is nearly upon us. One goal we should all strive for in the summer months is to stay hydrated. Drinking water is one of the best things we can do for ourselves (our bodies are up to 60% water, after all). But, before you find yourself reaching for that one-use bottle, think again! Over one million plastic bottles are bought every minute around the world, and a shocking 91% of these tiny plastic bombs are not recycled.
Single-use plastics are catastrophic for our oceans and our bodies. Our plastic problem is so bad that scientists have recorded airborne microplastics in places that used to be completely pristine such as the Pyrenees Mountains in Southern France. Unfortunately, the issue is even worse near large cities. Plastic is everywhere, and we need to do our best to slow its toll on the
planet. So, this summer, why not consider investing in a quality water bottle that’s made from metal? They’re stylish, durable, and ready to fill up at the nearest fountain. It may feel small, but every choice adds up and we need to do everything we can to help preserve the precious resource that is our earth.
Choose Sunscreen that Doesn’t Hurt Our Planet
We all know that protecting our skin is essential, but did you know that by making different sunscreen choices, we can help protect the planet? Sunscreen may be one of life’s little necessities, but ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate in certain types of sunscreen are contributing to the deaths of wildlife and coral reefs all across the planet.
Help make the world a better place and choose a sunscreen whose main active ingredients are zinc oxide or titanium oxide since they’re biodegradable. Here’s a great guide to finding an ocean-friendly sunscreen that will protect you and the earth on even the sunniest of days.
Commit to Timeless Essentials
The unfortunate truth is that fast fashion is terrible for the environment. As tempting as it may be to try to keep up with the latest trends, keeping your closet small and full of well-made garments that will last for years to come is one of the best ways to help make your impact on the environment smaller. Fortunately, you don’t have to give up great clothing to help the planet. At Truth Alone, we craft our timeless essentials to last and ensure that our garment creation process is as low impact as possible.
Here are a few ways we make sure our clothing is better for the planet. We use Peruvian Pima Organic Cotton. This type of cotton uses about 90% less water than conventional cotton. Our organic cotton is hand harvested, which eliminates the use of machinery in the field and we take out the garment washing step, which cuts down on more water and heat, allowing our clothes to be in their most natural intimately knitted state. Sustainability and good stewardship of the planet is an integral part of what we do at Truth Alone, so we’re dedicated to doing our part.
